Working on #93 on my 101 in 1001!
This week I’m going veggie!!!
Not in the anti killing animals rant way! Though the treatment of the animals in many of the mass production farms can be disgraceful and completely inhuman. (PETA ) Some of these farms keep the animals in cages that are not cleaned and are not big enough to allow the animal to turn around or even lay down. The dirty environment causes many of the animals to develop bronchitis or other illnesses. The animals are fed drugs to fatten them up and keep them alive in the poor conditions. They are deprived of exercise leaving their bodily energy for the sole use of producing resources for human consumption. In many cases the animals grow so fast that they collapse, unable to carry them selves even inches for a drink of water.
But I’m not telling you to skip out on meat entirely!! I love burgers way too much for that! If you consciously look for free-range, and grass fed meat you can support industries that care about our health as well as the health of the animals.
In the next week I will cut meat from my diet to understand what its like to be a vegetarian. I have many friends who are vegetarians and I admire that they commit to such a choice!
Day Number One:
It went good!
Breakfast was bad I only had my necessary cup of coffee… Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Between my 8 a.m. and my 9 a.m. classes I had a Quaker Chewy bar. Surprisingly it only had four ingredients that I didn’t recognize!
For lunch I had cut up strawberries, half a banana sliced and yogurt.
Snack was the other half of my banana with a little bit of peanut butter on each slice.
My third snack was pretzels.
For dinner I had salad, steamed veggies, and veggie pasta. I don’t eat a lot of meat in the dinning halls anyway so I have my usual dinner.
Would you go vegetarian?
